Meet the speaker: Dr. Geoff Gurr Geoff Gurr is an Meet the speaker: Dr. Geoff Gurr Geoff Gurr is an ecologist, best known internationally for advances in biological control and the exploitation of insect-plant interactions to develop innovative pest management strategies. In December 2020, he won Engagement Australia’s award for outstanding research impact. He has been working on vineyard issues since 2000 and is currently leading a program of research covering biological control, soil health and grower attitudes from Charles Sturt University’s Orange campus. Meet: Dr. Cristina Lazcano Dr. Cristina Lazcano is a soil biologist and assistant professor of soil ecology at the department of Land, Air and Water Resources, University of California Davis (USA). Dr. Lazcano has worked with crops like corn, tomatoes, strawberries and, for the last six years, Dr. Lazcano’s research is focused on winegrapes. Through on farm collaborative research, Dr. Lazcano hopes to help winegrape producers understand how to improve soil health, environmental quality and agroecosystem resilience while producing high quality grapes. Presently, he is at the helm of @leaskagri, a vineyard management company focusing on regenerative agriculture principles over family-owned and client vineyards totalling 180ha. In 2021 he was a finalist in the ASVO Viticulturist of the Year Award and is a founding trustee of the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation. Meet: Su McCluskley As the inaugural Special Representative for Australian Agriculture, Ms McCluskey will promote Australia’s commitment to sustainable agriculture, to the multilateral system and to the principles that underpin global trade in agricultural goods and products. Ms McCluskey is a senior business executive and company director with a strong background in agricultural policy, production and research. Ms McCluskey is the Director of Australian Unity, LiveCorp, Foundation for Young Australians, Australasian Pork Research Institute and Energy Renaissance. She is also a Commissioner for the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, a government body supporting sustainable livelihoods and food security in the Indo-Pacific region and Africa. Previously, Ms McCluskey has been the CEO of the Regional Australia Institute and the Council of Rural Research and Development Corporations and the Executive Director of the Office of Best Practice Regulation. She has also held senior positions with the Business Council of Australia, the National Farmers’ Federation and the Australian Taxation Office.
